I find it pretty shocking that today the Baltimore DA swiftly announced that she’s pursuing charges against the 6 officers involved in Freddy Gray’s death. The announcement came hours after the medical examiner ruled the death a homicide and a day after the Baltimore police handed the DA their internal review. The officer who drove the vehicle in which Gray was transported is to be charged with second-degree murder and the others will be charged with lesser crimes.

It’s early and I strongly believe in the presumption of innocence, so I’ll withhold judgment until we all know more. I do applaud swift action though. I believe that officers should stand accused just like regular citizens. I also believe they should receive full and fair trials.
