A while back the Health and Human Services Commission in Texas decided to privatize Terrell State Hospital. Basically it was a giveaway to a private company with a questionable record that would put profit motive above caring for the mental I’ll appropriately (in my opinion). Thank god the Legislature saw what was really going on (a corporate welfare giveaway that was neither good for the taxpayer nor good for the folks suffering from mental illness). They’ve put the plan in limbo and asked tough (to this point unanswered) questions about the contract and whether privatization is even a good idea in the first place. Whew!!!!
